What I learned from examining thriving Colorado businesses

By Justin Den, CEO of Info Cubic and Judge for the 2012 Denver Chamber of Commerce Business Awards

Last Thursday when I turned my car on to drive home, I looked at the clock and couldn’t believe that it was already 8:00p.m. It had been a long day, but it was wonderful. I had learned so much about how to be a successful company by observing the practices of some great Colorado businesses. Read the rest of this entry »

Justin Den and Dan Mayer worked in the background check industry for years before determining that something was missing from the market—high-quality customer service and better technology. Info Cubic’s service has been certified by the International Organization of  Standardization, which demonstrates that the business meets a certain set of quality standards, including a 99.9 percent accuracy rating on all background check reports and retaining 95 percent of customers.

“With the clear measurement standards that ISO certification provides, every employee in our company— from entry-level positions to top management— clearly knows what to strive for when providing high-quality service to our clients,” said Den.

The Cube in the Community

Running of the Green a Success
Resident Info Cubic runners Beth Brown and Geoff Jensen ran in Denver’s 24th annual Runnin’ of the Green Lucky 7K on March 11. Their participation benefited the Volunteers of America, whose mission is to help the young, the homebound elderly, and women and children that are victims of domestic violence.
The weather couldn’t have been better and the crowd’s enthusiasm showed it. This event drew thousands of participants and spectators and ended with a great outdoor party in Denver’s LoDo neighborhood. Best news of all, Geoff and Beth finished this race in less than 55 minutes. Not too shabby, considering this was Geoff’s first 7K, and it was the morning of Daylight
Savings Time – ouch!
Congratulations to Beth and Geoff for their contribution to this event and our local community.

About ISO and the 9000 standards

ISO (International Organization for Standardization), a non-governmental organization that forms a bridge between the public and private sectors, is the world’s largest developer and publisher of International Standards. ISO was established in 1947 and is currently an association of 163 member-countries. ISO employs a system of Technical Committees, Sub-committees and Working Groups to develop International Standards. ISO works in accordance with an agreed set of rules of procedure (the ISO/IEC Directives), which also include requirements on the presentation of standards. The ISO 9000 standards are a collection of formal International Standards, Technical Specifications, Technical Reports, Handbooks and web-based documents on Quality Management. ISO 9000 standards give organizations an opportunity to increase value to their activities and to improve their performance continually, by focusing on their major processes. The standards place great emphasis on aligning quality management systems more closely to the processes of organizations, and on continual improvement. As a result, they help users better achieve business results, including the satisfaction of customers and other interested parties. Organizations that wish to prove their conformance to the ISO Standards become certified by an independent and accredited third party organization that uses established and accepted processes and competent auditors to perform assessments of the organizations’ quality management systems. Visit www.iso.org and www.anab.org for more information.

Info Cubic won the costume contest at the South Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce

October 29th, 2010

“As vendors at the South Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Expo that was held on October 29th, those of us attending dressed up in keeping with the spirit of Halloween. The last thing I expected as the bride of Dracula, was to win the costume contest. Granted, I was lurking around in true vampire fashion and vampires are pretty popular these days, I still was shocked to receive this recognition – a big bucket of candy and a gift certificate to a local restaurant. Thanks for the goodies South Metro!

The South Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce is such a great organization, we are delighted to be a part of this group. We are as involved as we can be and still get our work done! They have more meet-ups than anyone could possibly attend and are a really active and sincere bunch of people.”

2010 Coseia Conference

Oh John Denver, you had no idea.  A lot of people – do however know that Colorado is in the forefront of renewable energy research and utilization.

This year, Info Cubic had the opportunity to participate in the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association (affectionately known around here as CoSEIA) annual conference.  With over three hundred attendees and over thirty exhibitors as well as speakers the likes of the Governor – it was the place to be.

I had no idea how many companies there are in the region  with the most cutting edge developments.  What else did I learn?  Thermal is the new pink…it is easy to create your own ecosystem with some salamanders and a few earthworms – don’t forget the crickets , and finally – people love kitchen composters (our give away item).  Our sales lady Beth sure knows how to reach out to a demographic, huh?

It was such an honor to be have a partnership and learn form a group of people who are really changing the world for the better…one panel at a time.

It’s a long way to the top if you want to rock n’roll

March 19th, 2010
I am on the top of floor

Okay, so clearly I survived. And thank God I didn’t have a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop in my mouth or I would surely have died. For those of you just joining this story, in our last posting I speculated how long it would take me to do the Fight For Air Stair Climb up the Republic Plaza in Downtown Denver – 56 floors. I found out that this is not only the tallest building in Denver, but the Rocky Mountain region. I can assure you this is true.

The turnout was fantastic, families, young and old, fit and less fit, in all there were 2,000 participants – wow, I say! It was kind of like a rock concert without the Who. Not surprising since it supported such a worthy foundation, the American Lung Association, and Denver is a city full of rock stars – willing and able to gather for a good cause.

So I know you are all dying to know, okay, you finished but how long did it take? Well according to my watch, 16 minutes. My official time was 15:40……but it really felt more like a scene from the movie Groundhog Day, “I swear I’ve been here and done this already, again and again.” And all said and done, I would do it again.

56 Floors 1,098 steps – One Important Cause

February 24th, 2010

The building I am going to climb

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop?

When I recently, and perhaps unwisely, signed up to do the Anthem Fight For Air Stair Climb in what may well be the tallest building in Colorado, the Republic Plaza in downtown Denver on February 28th, I was told it will be 1,098 stairs. I find myself asking, how long does it take to climb 1,098 stairs?

Like the rhetorical question of yester year asked us of the wise old owl, I think it is left to the unknown, left to feed the imagination, incalculable because the variances are so great.  If you are a science nerd, maybe you can come close by estimating distance, elevation, temperature, fitness…..Hhmmm.

But how does insanity factor into this? The true question is how stable must a person be to take on a task like this? And does this mental instability play into the time it takes to accomplish it? Hhhmmmm, another head scratcher.

In all seriousness, I chose to do the 56 floor stair climb because it supports a good cause – The American Lung Association. And I am grateful to have the lungs to do it.

At Info Cubic we are committed to community outreach. I feel lucky to be part of an organization that believes in giving back to the community. It is something I was raised with, and have continued to do my whole life. To have the opportunity for my philanthropic behavior to spill over into my work life is also something I am truly grateful for.

So, I’ll lace up my sneakers and hit the stairs. Still in the interim it goes round in my head, how long will this take? An hour? I’ve never done anything like this, 20 minutes?  What will slow me down? What will speed me up? I guess I’ll just continue pondering and wearing down my Tootsie Roll Tootsie pop one lick at a time ……

Stay tuned, the results will be posted in our next newsletter.
